The Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, has called on newly admitted students of the institution to shun all forms of indiscipline, uphold integrity, and pursue academic excellence while aiming to be the very best in life.

Akinyemi, according to a statement on Monday signed by the spokesperson of the university, Ayodele Maraiyesa, gave the charge during the institution’s third matriculation ceremony, which marked the formal admission of 264 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The vice-chancellor said the university, which received its operational licence in June 2023, began with 17 programmes across three colleges and 33 pioneer students, adding that it has continued to record modest growth and a promising future.

He stated, “Today, we are admitting students across our colleges: 41 in Arts, Management and Social Sciences; six in Engineering; 40 in Science and Information Technology; 131 in Medical and Allied Health Sciences; and 46 in Law.

“From 17 programmes, we have now expanded to 34 fully approved programmes across six colleges approved by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies, including the Council of Legal Education and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.”

Akinyemi said the university had continued to strengthen its infrastructure, refine its administration, upgrade its digital systems, and make strategic appointments to reinforce leadership capacity.

He explained that the institution was building a culture of discipline, inquiry, and innovation supported by a fourfold certification model: academic grounding, professional skill, entrepreneurial readiness, and ethical formation.

Speaking on the essence of the event, he said, “This ceremony represents more than formal admission into the university. It is a structured affirmation of progress, purpose, and institutional continuity.

“Each matriculation reminds us that a university is defined not by scale alone, but by the strength of its systems and the clarity of its direction.

“To our matriculating students, you are entering a system that demands discipline, focus, and consistency. Success here will not be accidental; it will be built on purpose and hard work, and the university is here to support all to achieve your lofty aim and excellence in academic pursuit and character.”

The vice-chancellor commended the founder and Chancellor of the university, Maj.-Gen. Sansadeen Awosanya (rtd.), saying his decision to establish the institution has helped redefine the landscape of higher education in the country.

In his remarks, Awosanya urged the newly admitted students to see their admission as both a privilege and a responsibility.

He said, “True education must produce not only sound minds but responsible citizens who are conscious of their role in building a sustainable future,” charging them to pursue excellence while contributing meaningfully to society.

The Pro-Chancellor, Dr Onikepo Akande, commended the institution’s steady growth, describing it as a forward-looking university committed to quality education.

Akande urged the students to remain focused and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chancellor’s wife, Alhaja Funmilola Awosanya, alongside members of the Board of Trustees, including Mrs Adeola Simon, Prof. Saburi Adesanya, Mr Biodun Awosanya, and Mr Kola Abdul.

Also present was the Ogun State Coordinator and Deputy Director of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Hakeem AbdulHameed.

As part of activities marking the ceremony, the university inaugurated a tree-planting exercise to promote environmental sustainability, with the Chancellor formally flagging off the initiative.

Members of the Board of Trustees and management participated in the exercise.

The initiative, according to the university, forms part of its broader commitment to responsible institutional development and environmental stewardship.
