Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in the Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency of Katsina State have affirmed a former Commissioner for Environment, Hamza Sule Faskari, as the party’s consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation took place at a stakeholders’ rally held in Kankara on Saturday, where party leaders and members endorsed the decision of the constituency consensus committee.
Party stalwarts at the event said the move reflected the “popular” will of stakeholders across the 31 wards in the three local government areas that make up the constituency.
They said the consensus arrangement was reached after consultations among party leaders, ward representatives and other stakeholders.
According to them, factors considered in the selection included Faskari’s popularity, acceptability, political experience, and record of public service.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Lawal Jobe, commended the consensus committee led by former Deputy Governor, Tukur Ahmad Jikamshi, for what he described as a thorough process.
He urged other aspirants who were not selected to “take the committee’s decision in good faith.”
“I urge you to join hands with other APC members to work towards the party’s victory in the general elections,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Hamza Sule Faskari thanked party leaders and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him.
He called for unity among party members and urged eligible voters who had not obtained their Permanent Voter Cards to do so ahead of the elections.
“If elected to represent the constituency, I would prioritise security by mobilising the deployment of more security personnel and equipment and the adoption of more effective strategies to combat banditry and kidnapping in the three local government areas,” he said.
He pledged to prioritise security if elected, saying he would push for improved deployment of security personnel and equipment to tackle banditry and kidnapping in the constituency.
Faskari, a two-time Commissioner for Environment in Katsina State and former legislative aide to a senator representing Funtua Zone, is also a businessman, farmer and philanthropist.
He holds traditional titles including Wamban Faskari and Sadaukin Kasar Hausa in the Daura Emirate.
