…Nigeria has not collapsed into a full-blown dictatorship, but it is no longer functioning as a democracy either. Its institutions have failed to consolidate, leaving the country suspended in a political twilight. To understand Nigeria’s governance disaster, one must recognise its three overlapping systems: anocracy, kakistocracy and plutocracy. Within that toxic triangle, kleptocracy, neopatrimonialism and prebendalism flourish, turning the state into a private estate for a wealthy… We’ve had, in recent times, at least three examples of prominent people saying that Nigeria, under President Tinubu, has become a dictatorship. How are you related to the late Oluwafemi Adeyemo? Oluwafemi was my brother-in-law. He was my wife’s immediate younger brother. Their parents gave birth to three of them — two women, and he was the last child. The first child is Mr Joelson’s wife. Mr Joelson is my brother-in-law who lives in Lagos. He, alongside me, played an active role in finding Oluwafemi when we first received the news that he was declared missing before he was eventually found dead. What kind of person was he? Oluwafemi was a nice guy to all of us. He was calm, loving, and…
Starting a family is expected to happen naturally, but for many couples, the journey becomes painfully complicated, especially when the fear of passing on a serious inherited disease hangs over every pregnancy. In Nigeria, thousands of families quietly live with genetic conditions that alter lives forever. Among the most common inherited conditions is sickle cell disorder, and for couples who know they carry the genetic traits, the dream of having a healthy child often comes with deep anxiety. Thanks to advances in reproductive medicine, things are changing for the better. At Nordica Lagos, a highly advanced genetic technology known as…
Nigeria’s central bank has expanded the permitted operating radius for Point of Sale (PoS) terminals from 10 metres to 70 metres after concerns that the original restriction was too rigid for agents and merchants. In a May 29, 2026 circular, the CBN also extended the enforcement deadline for the geo-fencing policy to August 1, 2026, giving payment companies more time to comply with the directive first introduced in August 2025. The revision marks a partial retreat from one of the CBN’s strictest rules in Nigeria’s fast-growing agent banking market, which sought to tightly control where PoS terminals can operate. Under…

The Chief Executive Officer of the refinery, David Bird, disclosed this in an interview with S&P Global Energy, describing the facility as a fully merchant-style refinery built to compete with global trading hubs rather than a conventional single-feed crude processing plant. “This is…
