Etinosa’s Entertainer Safety Tips to Avoid Exploitation

Actress, Etinosa Idemudia, has urged entertainers to exercise caution when approached with unfamiliar offers, particularly within the entertainment industry, warning that vigilance and due diligence are essential safeguards against exploitation and abuse.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress stressed that while the industry offers opportunities, it also requires discernment, especially for young people navigating it for the first time.

“Anyone pursuing opportunities, especially in entertainment, must approach unfamiliar offers with caution and due diligence,” she said. “Research the individual or company thoroughly. Ask for references. Review their previous work. Confirm their digital footprint and professional history.”

Etinosa emphasised that both men and women are vulnerable, noting that the issue of sexual exploitation and assault is not gender-specific. She advised entertainers to avoid private or isolated meetings, particularly at the early stages of professional engagement, and to involve a trusted third party or representative whenever possible.

“In our industry, we work with many different personalities, so vigilance and professionalism must go hand in hand,” she added. “Faith in God’s protection is important to me personally, but wisdom and practical safeguards are equally important.”

Outlining red flags that should not be ignored, the actress listed the absence of a verifiable track record or credible references, lack of a professional media presence, pressure to act urgently or secretly, requests for meetings in secluded locations, and communication that appears inappropriate or unprofessional.

“Trust your instincts,” she advised. “If something feels wrong, pause and seek advice from a trusted mentor or representative.”

Beyond cautioning entertainers, Etinosa also addressed the broader societal response to sexual violence, condemning the culture of victim-blaming. According to her, such behaviour discourages survivors from speaking out and undermines justice.

“Victim blaming is harmful and discourages people from speaking up. No one deserves violence, and responsibility always lies with the perpetrator,” she said. “At the same time, proper investigation is important in any legal matter and it must be handled professionally and sensitively by trained authorities. There is a clear difference between fair fact-finding and blaming or shaming someone who reports harm.”

She called on government institutions, industry regulators and community leaders to create safer systems that protect survivors while ensuring objective justice. The actress added that she contributes to the conversation through storytelling in film, using her platform to spotlight societal issues and inspire reflection.

On the way forward, Etinosa maintained that safety must remain a shared responsibility.

“We must create a society where survivors feel protected, not judged,” she said.
