The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa, has said Nigeria is moving from planning to full implementation of its national Artificial Intelligence strategy.
In a post obtained from NITDA’s X handle on Friday, he made the remarks while speaking at the Global Partnership for Human-Centric ICT Standardisation Nigeria Introductory Stakeholder Workshop in Abuja, where he represented the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.
According to him, Nigeria has already developed a national AI strategy and is now focused on putting it into action through structured frameworks and policy direction.
“We have developed our national AI strategy, and the next phase is implementation,” Inuwa said.
He explained that the government is working on regulatory guidelines to ensure that AI deployment in the country is guided by strong ethical standards and safeguards.
“The next step is to develop structured guidelines and regulatory frameworks that will ensure AI is deployed responsibly, with the right safeguards in place,” he added.
Inuwa also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem through data classification initiatives aimed at improving the quality and reliability of datasets used for AI training.
“We are also working on data classification to ensure that we have clean, reliable datasets that can be used to train AI systems effectively,” he said.
He further noted that cloud technology adoption remains a key part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, particularly within public institutions.
“The integration of cloud technologies is critical to improving efficiency, scalability, and service delivery across government institutions,” he stated.
Inuwa said these initiatives are part of Nigeria’s broader ambition to build a human-centric digital economy that supports innovation while ensuring accountability, inclusivity, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
