    Celebrated Nigerian musical icon, actress and activist, Onyeka onwenu, is dead.

    Although details of her last moments are yet to be disclosed, the veteran musician reportedly slumped Tuesday night shortly after performing at an event to mark the birthday anniversary ceremony of Stella Okoli, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, MD/CEO, Emzor Pharmaceutical, Banana Island, Lagos.

    The 72 year-old, who once served as the head, Imo State Council for Arts and Culture, was said to have been rushed to a hospital somewhere in Victoria Island. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the undisclosed medical facility.

    Born in Obosi, Anambra State, in 1952, her foray into music took in the 80s when she released “For the Love of You”, followed by several others, including the celebrated “One Love”.

    Ms Onwnu is a proud recipient of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, MFR, is undoubtedly, one of the leading female social crusaders in Nigeria.
