Nigeria’s foreign exchange utilisation rose to $18.34 billion in the second quarter of 2026 with financial services accounting for more than half of total demand. The increase comes as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reduces its direct dollar sales, leaving autonomous foreign exchange inflows to play a greater role in meeting demand from banks, businesses and other market participants. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun an investigation into an incident involving a foreign-registered aircraft operated by Triton Aviation after the airline’s crew reported that a door of the aircraft opened mid-air shortly after taking off from Abuja on Thursday. The Challenger 604 aircraft, with registration number T7-SEI, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday for Lagos.
